O’Rouke

Kelowna area, BC

A custom Old World finish: smooth stucco with a burnished effect, plus decorative moldings at the base and top of the columns.

The O’Rouke residence finished in a smooth Old World stucco with a covered porch.

The job

The owners wanted a finish with some age to it, not flat grey stucco. We built a custom Old World look, smooth stucco carrying a subtle burnished effect so the colour and texture shift a little as light moves across the wall. It reads handcrafted because it is.

Decorative stucco moldings were run at the base and the top of each column. That detail is what gives the front of the house its character, and it has to be laid out before any finish goes on or the lines never line up.

Underneath the look is a reinforced two-coat cement system with performance additives, and fiberglass mesh embedded right through it. The mesh is there to hold the wall together and cut down the chance of cracking as the house moves and the seasons swing.
